Enabling mMTC in Remote Areas: LoRaWAN and LEO Satellite Integration for Offshore Wind Farm Monitoring

چکیده
The offshore wind farms are gaining momentum due to their promise offer sustainable energy with low pollution and greenhouse gas emission. However, despite all the immense technological progress of recent years, operation in a harsh hard-to-reach environment remains challenging. According reports, each turbine requires five maintenance visits year on average, cumulative repair costs constitute around 30% turbine’s life-cycle expenditure. Motivated by advancement massive machine-type connectivity (mMTC) satellite technologies, this study, we investigate potential these enable remote monitoring farms. Specifically, two alternative architectures considered. indirect architecture relies using local mMTC gateway (GW) backbone over reliable communication channel (e.g., or wire-based). direct approach implies transmission data sensors turbines directly GW low-Earth-orbit satellite. details system design, implementation strategies, relevant pros, cons, tradeoffs pin-pointed. Finally, employ simulations realistic deployment traffic advanced propagation collision models characterize approaches’ feasibility packet delivery probability numerically when implemented LoRaWAN technology.

2. STUDY SITES Abstract A method is presented for the mapping of wind speed over the ocean using satellite (ERS-2 SAR, ENVISAT ASAR) and airborne (E-SAR) synthetic aperture radars. Impacts of a large offshore wind farm on the local wind climate are described quantitatively from the radar measurements. Of particular interest is the magnitude and extent of wakes (i.e. regions of reduced wind spee...
متن کاملAutomated grid connection design process for offshore wind farm clusters
An automated grid connection design process for offshore wind farm clusters that takes into account the variability of wind and power demand/prices is demonstrated on a 7200 MW case study inspired by Dogger Bank, using the Net-Op planning tool. Two modelling approaches for demand, generation and prices are outlined and compared for this case study. Both approaches result in the same optimal off...
متن کاملImprovement of the Wind Farm Model Flap for Offshore Applications
The wind farm program FLaP (Farm Layout Program), developed at the University of Oldenburg, has been extended to improve the description of wake development in offshore conditions. Especially the low ambient turbulence and the effect of atmospheric stability have been addressed. Model results have been compared with measured vertical wake profiles and mean turbulence intensities from the Danish...
متن کاملIntegration of Degradation Processes in a Strategic Offshore Wind Farm O&M Simulation Model
Decision support models for offshore wind farm operation and maintenance (O&M) are required to represent the failure behavior of wind turbine components. Detailed degradation modelling is already incorporated in models for specific components and applications. However, component degradation is only one of many effects that must be captured in high-level strategic decision support models that si...
